Orora reaffirms commitment to The United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary, principles-based framework which ensures participating organisations adopt sustainable and socially responsible practices into their overarching business strategy and day-to-day operations.

Its ten principles set universal standards in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, setting the stage for present and long-term success.

Orora became a signatory to the UNGC in 2016 and recently re-affirmed its commitment to making the Global Compact’s principles a part of Orora’s operating framework.

In Orora’s first year as a signatory to the UNGC, Orora conducted a thorough assessment to understand how Orora’s operations currently support the ten UNGC principles and to identify opportunities for improvement.

This assessment confirmed that Orora has well-established practices in relation to human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, however Orora is committed to continuous improvement and has identified a number of opportunities for improvement including:

• Reviewing Orora group policies against the Orora Values and the UNGC Principles and update these as required.
• Undertaking a further independent assessment of Orora’s exposure to material economic, environmental and social sustainability risks to identify any new issues that may impact our present and future resilience, and develop a response where appropriate.
• Developing a formal reporting framework which incorporates Orora’s performance against the ten UNGC principles into Orora’s Annual Report.

The UNGC is an important global initiative and Orora will continue to advocate on its principles in Orora’s business and community interactions.
